When Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) returned to home from her holiday in Coronation Street, she was sporting a new hairstyle.

Her new look consisted of much darker hair with a full fringe – a very noticeable difference to everyone but husband Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).

After recovering from the shock of discovering that Les Battersby had been killed in an accident at work, Gemma was quick to point out that Chesney hadn’t even mentioned her new do.

He was quick to correct himself, revealing how lovely it looked, before once again fretting about whether or not to sign an NDA and accept cash from the abattoir where Les died.

Eventually, he decided not to take the money on principle, much to Gemma’s horror.

Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) attempted to persuade him to change his mind, by pointing out that challenging the company in court could leave them bankrupt, but Chesney was willing to take the risk.

Gemma’s new hairstyle comes after actress Dolly-Rose Campbell revealed her own new look, which is totally different to her character’s.

The actress, who has played Gemma since 2014, took to Instagram with a selfie showing off her much shorter, curly hair.

She was soon inundated with comments from fellow soap stars who gushed over the new look, with on-screen mum Bernie Winter actress Jane Hazlegrove writing: ‘Beautiful woman!’

‘Love your hair,’ Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton, added, while Joel Deering actor Calum Lill said: ‘Love this!’

Of course, the drastic change of hairstyle for Dolly-Rose has meant that she now wears a wig when appearing on screen as Gemma.

In upcoming episodes, Gemma is delighted when Chesney tells her that all of their bills have been paid off.

With some money left over, Gemma is utterly thrilled when Chesney says they can also organise a week in Alicante.

The good mood for the family continues later in the day, when Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) announce their engagement.

Aadi (Adam Hussain), Asha (Tanisha Gorey), Chesney, Gemma and Summer (Harriet Bibby) spend time celebrating with them but just as Chesney and Gemma return home, they’re taken aback to find two police officers at their door.

Soon enough, Chesney is being taken down the police station for interviewing, but what has happened?

Chesney and Gemma’s drama with the police comes ahead of two new arrivals – Mick and Lou – who will turn out to be their nightmarish neighbours.

On joining the long-running ITV show, Farrel Hegarty said: ‘I’m delighted and so grateful to be joining the cast of Coronation Street. I have genuinely been blown away by how ridiculously warm and nice everyone is.

‘Lou is definitely an exciting character to play because she’s got good and bad parts to her, she’s a life force and full of beans. She’s a very colourful person who likes to make waves and try to cause chaos.

‘But she also has that strong family loyalty, especially between Mick and Lou, they are thick as thieves and will stick up for each other, even when they probably shouldn’t…’
