Carla Connor (Alison King) has had quite the time of it in Coronation Street so far this year, from contracting sepsis to being kidnapped by killer brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).

In recent scenes, Rob’s life was left hanging in the balance when Carla pushed him down a flight of stairs, after he alluded to having killed her girlfriend Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Rob had lured Lisa to the office block his girlfriend Mandy was holding Carla in, hoping to persuade the detective to give him some money to make his long-planned escape.

However, when he caught her trying to ring DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) for help, he turned violent, attacking her and leaving her unconscious.

Inside the office block, having shown his true colours to Mandy, Rob told Carla he planned to take Lisa with him on the run as his hostage, provided she had survived his earlier assault.

Terrified of losing her, Carla instinctively launched herself at Rob, and was horrified when he tumbled over the railings and was left motionless at the bottom of the stairs.

Fortunately, Lisa survived Rob’s brutal attack, but who knows if the same can be said for Rob?

Carla’s ordeal has clearly taken its toll on her health, especially given how vulnerable she was after her recent kidney transplant.

However, it seems as though she will soon be on the mend, as next week’s episodes see her finally get to leave hospital and return home.

Unfortunately – even after having gone to the effort of putting up a welcome home banner – Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) and Ryan Connor’s (Ryan Prescott) attempts to give Carla a warm welcome do little to impress her.

There is little they can do to distract from the fact that Lisa isn’t there to welcome Carla home – but where is she?

In scenes set to air this week, Lisa is pulled in for questioning as Kit investigates the incident with Rob.

With Rob having recorded her plan to help get his conviction overturned, could the recording have come to light and left her in deep trouble with the law?

Could she be set to take the blame for Carla’s attack on Rob, leaving her facing a stretch behind bars?

Or, could Rob have survived the fall and gone through with his promise to kidnap Lisa?

Hopefully there will be a much more innocent explanation for her absence – but should Carla be worried?
