Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has heaped praise on her Waterloo Road star daughter, Hattie Dynevor, for spreading an ‘important’ message on the BBC school-based Drama.

The Sally Metcalfe actress shared a picture to her Instagram story of Hattie appearing alongside co-stars Neil Fitzmaurice and Matthew Khan on BBC Breakfast, where they discussed their current storyline.

‘Well done. Such an important message,’ she wrote, tagging Hattie and Waterloo Road.

Hattie’s character Libby Guthrie is currently in a relationship with Matthew’s character Jared Jones, with the soap tackling the harrowing issue of coercive control.

During the interview, the stars explained how coercive control is something that is usually covered on TV with older couples, but that it is just as prevalent in younger generations – something they previously spoke to Metro and other publications about.

‘It’s been really important,’ Hattie said. ‘We’re working with a charity called Make It Mandatory, who advocate to make this a set subject in schools, so young school kids can see the red flags and the signs.

‘Most people think it only happens to older people in long relationships, but it really can happen from any age. I think it’s really important to share this message.

‘Someone like Libby, you’d never think this could happen to her, you’d have thought she wouldn’t let it, but it can happen to anyone. Sharing this story is really important for school children because it does happen a lot.

‘I think we’re really honoured that we’ve been given this storyline. It’s so important and I really hope we’ve done it justice.’

Sally was thrilled to announce her daughter’s new role at the time, writing on social media: ‘So proud of you Hattie Dynevor joining Waterloo Road playing Libby Guthrie. Such a fabulous cast and crew.’

Sally herself is no stranger to the small screen, having played Sally Metcalfe in Corrie since 1986.

Hattie’s older sister Phoebe Dynevor also got her big break in Waterloo Road, before going on to have huge success in series like Bridgerton.
