Emmerdale aired some big scenes – but no one loved them more than one of the star’s Coronation Street wife.

In sad scenes, the women of Emmerdale were caught up in a harrowing limo crash with only a few of them making it out alive. Sadly, we lost three huge characters in Suzy, Leyla and Amy – with fans fearing more death is on the way.

Michelle Hardwick – who plays Vanessa – is married to Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks, with the pair having tied the knot in 2019. Michelle has revealed Kate’s reaction to the heartbreaking scenes this week, which feature Vanessa losing Suzy.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, she said: “She watched it with me last night and she cried. She cried! So it made her cry. It takes a lot for her to cry. And I was like, did you really cry?

Over on Coronation Street, there’s drama ahead – which kicked off this year with a dramatic fire at the Platts house and the exit of a number of residents. Mason Radcliffe was killed in a shock stabbing, whilst there’s also health storylines for the likes of Abi and Kevin Webster, as well as Leanne continuing to struggle with the end of her relationship to Nick and his subsequent romance with her sister.

For DS Swain, there is also trouble ahead with Rob Donovan’s return, as the villain tried anything to get out of prison – even putting the life of his sister Carla Connor, who needed a kidney transplant, on the line.

Speaking about Corrie, Kate said: “It’s important that we tell gritty stories, we tell issue-led stories, and we’ve got them coming up in abundance. But, ultimately, it’s about packaging them in the right way and keeping them fresh and different without losing the DNA of Corrie. For me, what makes Corrie so wonderful is the familiarity of it; it’s the wit, it’s the characters, and so all these stories will be packaged with that in mind. That will be at the heart of each and every one.

“I love telling stories in non-linear ways. I love big, bold, stunt storytelling. I think taking a story and telling it in a completely different way that changes people’s perspectives is really good, it’s really good for the show, and I want to do more of that. As long as we root these stories in reality, the audience will come with us.”
