David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) had planned to set fire to his home a few weeks ago in Coronation Street, in a desperate attempt to get his hands on more money.

David hoped he’d be able to claim on the insurance post-fire, and then use that cash to pay Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) back.

While the Platt home was destroyed, David wasn’t responsible. At first, Leanne (Jane Danson) was accused of starting the fire due to Toyah (Georgia Taylor) getting trapped inside, but it was then confirmed Max (Paddy Bever) threw the lit rag into the house.

Max handed himself in, but David and Shona (Julia Goulding) paid him a visit recently and said they hope to be able to move him to Scotland.

The application was put in place to keep Max safer, due to the fact it wouldn’t take long for Harvey and his sidekicks to learn of the development.

In upcoming episodes, David’s desperation to earn more money continues as he tells Shona he’s off out to do some home-visit barbering.

When Shona isn’t around, David makes a call to old mate Andy, who is then seen paying David for their latest job.

David says to Andy that he needs to secure as many jobs as possible. Just as the criminal leaves, he locks eyes with a lad who’s been watching and gives him the nod.

Has Andy set David up?

How much more stress can David take?

‘In trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear’, producer Kate Brooks previously said, discussing David’s storyline.

‘So, a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well.’
