The boyfriend of Rob Mallard has shared a sweet social media post after making a brief appearance in Coronation Street.
Matthew Martin, who also works as a modelling agent, made a cameo in Wednesday’s (February 26) edition of the ITV soap, but he did not feature alongside Rob’s character Daniel Osbourne.
Matthew played a huge part in Cassie Plummer’s (Claire Sweeney) storyline, which has seen her spike Ken Barlow (William Roache) with drugs.
Cassie’s plot was uncovered in the instalment, as Ken caught onto what she was doing.
She has been using Ken’s credit card to order little treats for herself, always finding sly ways to explain away each new purchase.
In recent scenes, Ken returned home from the shop empty-handed, claiming that his card had declined at the till, and decided that he needed to look at his accounts.
His suspicions only rose when Cassie made countless excuses to try and stop him from digging any further. With a stern word, Ken ordered her to go to the shop and pay with cash, asserting that he was too tired to go back himself.
However, when Cassie left, his eyes snapped open and he immediately took to his laptop to investigate. When Cassie returned and presented Ken with a cup of tea, he switched the mugs, before questioning Cassie’s hesitation.
Determined to keep the lie going, Cassie picked up the drugged mug, before Ken stopped her, admitting that he knew she had put something in it. He laid out all his evidence, from Bertie Osbourne’s accusations to the unexpected deliveries, and soon Cassie was confessing to her crimes.
Devastated, Ken ordered her out, but the confrontation took a toll and he promptly collapsed.
When Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) found him, she quickly called for an ambulance and had him rushed to hospital, where the doctor confirmed that he had had a heart attack and would need to undergo surgery to fit a stent.
After a showdown between Tracy and Cassie in the street, two police officers arrived to arrest her – with one of them being played by Rob’s partner.
Following these scenes, Matthew took to Instagram and posted behind the scenes snaps of him as a police officer, alongside Rob as Daniel.
He excitedly wrote alongside: ‘Ey mam! I’m on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer/@claire.sweeney.
‘All thanks to @mossy737 for giving me the opportunity to work on the iconic show that is @coronationstreet and of course my lad @rob.mallard for being the biggest support and showing me the ropes.’

He previously dated Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap.
