Coronation Street’s Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) faces some serious questions when she’s caught planning her funeral next week.

The iconic character staged a return last month, with actress Katy Cavanagh reprising her role after nine years away.

After Julie’s nephew Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) bumped into her at the hotel, she was later forced to admit what had really brought her back to Weatherfield after he found her bag stuffed full of pills.

She then revealed the shocking truth to him that she had been diagnosed with cancer, but wanted to keep her diagnosis from her sister Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).

But Julie’s secret looks set to be exposed in forthcoming scenes, when Eileen catches her out by accident.

Next Monday, Eileen finds Julie in the undertakers discussing funerals with George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley).

Confused, Eileen demands to know what is going on – but will Julie keep up her lie, or will she be forced to share the sad truth?

It was previously revealed that Julie’s return to Corrie is to tie in with Eileen’s forthcoming departure from the cobbles.

Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen, announced she’d quit the ITV soap after 25 years back in January, with her departure set to play out in the coming weeks.

‘It was really lovely to get the call,’ Katy told Metro of her return. ‘It is something I haven’t thought about for many years. And I’m very fond of Julie, so it was a good feeling.

‘It also felt good to be asked to be part of Eileen’s departure story it is perfect to come and have some closure on Julie and Eileen.

‘Sue and I go back to my very first job on The Cops so it is a full circle moment. It also attracted me as it was for a short set period of time and I could fit it in with the other things going on in my life.’

Coronation Street airs these scenes from Monday 10 March at 8pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
