The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Coronation Street that hasn’t aired on ITV yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) has finally learnt about sister Julie Carp’s (Katy Cavanagh) cancer in Coronation Street.

Shortly after Julie returned, she told Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) that she is dying, but didn’t want her sister to know.

In tonight’s episode though, that all changed.

Julie had organised a chat with funeral director George (Tony Maudsley). At the parlour, they began talking about arrangements, but it wasn’t long until they got interrupted by Eileen.

As soon as Eileen grew curious, Julie knew she had been backed into a corner. She confirmed to her sister that she’s dying, and later opened up about receiving her diagnosis.

The chat with her sibling made Eileen tearful. She also felt disappointed in herself for not reconnecting with Julie sooner.

They supported one another, concluding they would now spend as much time together as possible.

It was previously revealed that Julie’s return to Corrie is to tie in with Eileen’s forthcoming departure from the cobbles.

Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen, announced she’d quit the ITV soap after 25 years back in January, with her departure set to play out in the coming weeks.

‘It was really lovely to get the call,’ Katy told Metro of her return. ‘It is something I haven’t thought about for many years. And I’m very fond of Julie, so it was a good feeling.

‘It also felt good to be asked to be part of Eileen’s departure story it is perfect to come and have some closure on Julie and Eileen.

‘Sue and I go back to my very first job on The Cops so it is a full circle moment. It also attracted me as it was for a short set period of time and I could fit it in with the other things going on in my life.’
