Coronation Street legend Carla Connor (Alison King) was put in a devastating position in tonight’s episode, as she was forced to identify a body believed to be her brother, Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).
Rob came crashing back into Carla’s life earlier this year after she contracted sepsis and was left needing another kidney transplant.
Despite the factory boss having cut ties with Rob midway through his prison sentence, nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) paid his dad a visit to ask him to donate a kidney to ailing Carla.
Smelling an opportunity for escape, Rob eventually agreed, but his plan was far from plain sailing.
With the help of prison guard turned girlfriend Mandy, Rob planned to do a runner from the hospital without parting with his vital organ.
However, switched on DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) soon rumbled him, and came up with a cunning plan to force him into the operating theatre.
Down a kidney, Rob was horrified to have been double-crossed by the detective, and was left at death’s door after a confrontation with Carla saw her push him down the stairs.
Now, Rob is on the run, and out for revenge, and he’s had his sights set on Lisa’s daughter, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).
He wasn’t very discreet about the fact that he’d been following her through the precinct, and she soon caught onto him which left her terrified.
However, the tables turned dramatically in tonight’s episode when Lisa got a call to inform her that her colleagues had found a body they believed to be Rob.
The news came as a huge shock to Carla, who was clearly rattled by the idea of having to identify his body.
Her reaction left girlfriend Lisa concerned, and determined to be there to support her.
When Carla was called in to identify the body, she was clearly affected, and rushed out of the room and straight into Lisa’s arms.
As Lisa comforted her, Carla revealed that the body wasn’t Rob after all, but the ordeal had clearly left her shaken.
The news that Rob was still out there somewhere left poor Betsy shaken – but he may soon be caught once and for all.
When DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) paid a visit to the flat to inform Lisa of a break-in at a pharmacy, details of the robbery left Lisa certain that it was down to Rob.
Could this be the start of his downfall?
