Coronation Street funeral plans confirmed with character set to die
Terminally ill Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) makes another attempt to plan her funeral in Coronation Street next week.
Julie recently returned to the cobbles after nine years away, having heartbreakingly been diagnosed with cancer.
She had sought to keep the news a secret, especially from her sister Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver), but was forced to admit the truth to nephew Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) when he noticed some pills in her bag.
While she swore him to secrecy, Julie later had to tell her sister of her ill health after Eileen caught her discussing funeral plans at the undertakers with her partner George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley).
She was devastated to hear what Julie had been going through, and fans know that the storyline will form part of Eileen’s exit storyline.
In scenes to air next week, Julie sits down for lunch with Eileen and Todd and says she wants to discuss her funeral.
But Eileen can’t face speaking about her sister’s death and heads out.

Will Eileen be able to come to terms with her sister’s terminal diagnosis before she leaves the Street? And just how long does Julie have left?
Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen, announced she’d quit the ITV soap after 25 years back in January, with her departure set to play out in the coming weeks.
The plot will also see Eileen’s son Jason Grimshaw return home, with actor Ryan Thomas reprising the role after nine years for his on-screen mother’s farewell.

While Julie looks set for a much sadder ending than Eileen, actress Katy Cavanagh said she was pleased to be asked to return.
‘It is perfect to come and have some closure on Julie and Eileen,’ she told Metro.
‘Sue and I go back to my very first job on The Cops so it is a full circle moment. It also attracted me as it was for a short set period of time and I could fit it in with the other things going on in my life.’
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
