Coronation Street star reveals Abi’s inner ‘animal’ will be exposed in shock new storyline
Abi Webster (Sally Carman) found herself in an unexpectedly awkward situation in recent Coronation Street scenes when husband Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) introduced her to his brother, Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard).
Carl had arrived to surprise Kevin and sister Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), but little did they know, he’d already had a run in with Abi.
When Carl accidentally crashed into Abi’s car in Freshco’s carpark, their confrontation soon turned to flirtation, and though Abi pointed out she was married, there was a clear connection between them both.
Coming face to face in the Bistro, it was clear that Abi was horrified, though Carl seemed to be enjoying himself.
‘They had this shock meeting where they ran into each other in the car park and there was instant electricity, a spark,’ actress Sally Carman explained.
‘Then he turned up in her life and turned out to be Kevin’s brother, which was gutting because he’d awakened something in her.
‘I think with Abi, with her being an addict, there was that rush, that adrenaline that she hasn’t had for a very long time. It completely turned her from red to blue.’
After learning about the family connection between herself and Carl, Abi was keen to shut her feelings down – though Sally admits that Abi must fight hard to do so.
‘She’s been given this whole life with Kevin, the kids are secure, she’s got a child now who’s safe and she’s all sorted. Her life is calm and loving, and that is something she’s craved for.
‘But a massive part of who Abi is is dangerous. There’s the addiction element; she thrives on risk-taking and danger. That part of her life, which was dormant, has now come up. There’s like an animal inside her and she’s absolutely fighting this with everything she’s got.’
Next week, Carl continues to rile Abi up, and when she makes her feelings clear, Kevin demands to know what’s going on…
‘I’m reading it thinking poor Kevin but I’m also thinking poor Abi because she’s really fighting it, telling him to go away and leave her alone but he’s just pursuing her relentlessly,’ Sally teased.
‘Her marriage to Kevin is based on gratitude, safeness, loyalty but Carl is tempting her with something else.’
Where will Abi’s heart ultimately fall?
