Kym Marsh denies major TV show exit claim as she rules out fourth marriage
Former Coronation Street and Waterloo Road star Kym Marsh has spoken out against rumours surrounding her exit from the BBC drama.
It was announced last month that the Hear’Say singer had stepped away from her role as Nicky Walters in Waterloo Road, having already filmed her final scenes.
The character spent four series as the iconic school’s kitchen manager, while attempting to parent students Tonya and Preston Walters.
Her major storylines saw her lose her mum, turn to theft while living in poverty and go through a break-up after falling for Donte Charles (Adam Thomas).
Prior to joining Waterloo Road, Kym spent 13 years on the cobbles of Coronation Street, as barmaid-turned-wedding planner Michelle Connor.
Now, she is starring as Beverley in Abigail’s Party at Manchester’s Royal Exchange – and she’s pointed out on major difference between the character and herself.
‘I don’t think they’ve ever been in love,’ she told The Independent of Beverley’s marriage to Laurence, played in this production by fellow Corrie alumni Graeme Hawley.
‘They probably liked each other and thought, “Oh, well, this is all right.” It’s convenient. But you were expected to get married back then. It was almost a little girl’s dream.
‘But not for Kym Marsh,’ she added. ‘I’ve been married three times, and three times it’s not gone well – so no more for me. Three strikes and I’m out.’
Kym’s first husband was EastEnders star Jack Ryder, who played Jamie Mitchell.
With second husband Jamie Lomas, who plays Hollyoaks’ Warren Fox, she shares daughter Polly and son Archie, who sadly died shortly after birth.
Following the end of her third marriage to army major Scott Ratcliff, Kymbegan dating 101 Dalmatians co-star Samuel Thomas.
News of their split came at the same time as Kym’s Waterloo Road exit, though Kym has set the record straight and confirmed that the two life events are unrelated.
Commenting on tabloid stories claiming she had left her role ‘because I’m heading towards 50 and I broke up with my “toy boy boyfriend”‘, Kym branded the claims ‘nonsense’, saying: ‘You think that the decisions in my life are based on how old I am and who I’ve broken up with?’
As well as acting and singing, Kym has also turned her hand to presenting, regularly appearing as a host on BBC Morning Live.
Soap fans are keen for her to reprise her role in Coronation Street, with many taking to social media to express their desire to see Michelle back on the cobbles.
