DS Swain unexpectedly breaks the rules to catch Joel in Coronation Street – and it spells trouble
DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) are risking their futures in Coronation Street as they desperately work together to try and have Joel Deering (Calum Lill) arrested.
Dee-Dee and Swain have both attempted to find a piece of evidence that proves Joel is a manipulative predator, but they keep reaching dead ends.
In last night’s episode, Swain said to Dee-Dee that they need to find someone from Joel’s past who had previously been suspicious about his behaviour.
With that, Dee-Dee hot footed it to a solicitors called Wallcots, who specialise in helping vulnerable young people.
Dee-Dee arrived there under false pretences but wasted no time in telling the boss her truthful motives when she eventually sat down. At first, the company weren’t comfortable with helping Dee-Dee but later that day, she was delivered a surprise.
Dee-Dee was paid a visit by an old colleague of Joel’s. He had his phone and said something useful might be on there. The solicitor raced over to see DS Swain – but she had some more disappointing news.
Swain explained to Dee-Dee that Joel’s case has been officially closed, so they can’t actually use police sources anymore. The two characters knew there was a loophole though – if they did everything on the sly, they could still effectively progress in the case.
That evening, a downbeat Dee-Dee was in her flat sipping wine after being told by Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) that she needed to step away from the solicitor firm for a little while.
In tears, Dee-Dee let Lisa into the flat and wondered what information she had for her.
Swain told Dee-Dee that she has a mate in IT who is willing to forensically examine Joel’s old phone. It was a massive moment – but Lisa and Dee-Dee knew the risks.
The two colleagues are determined to nail Joel and as Swain said, they’ll do whatever it takes.
But will risking their jobs really pay off in the long run?
