It’s set to be a busy time for the Platt clan in Coronation Street this autumn, as Gail’s (Helen Worth) exit storyline kicks off, and Bethany (Lucy Fallon) heads abroad for worrying cosmetic surgery – and it doesn’t exactly go to plan.
At the beginning of August, Metro.co.uk exclusively revealed the upcoming topical story for Bethany – and now, as we get closer to broadcast, we can share further details.
A source told us at the time: ‘This is a huge story for Bethany, and viewers will see her travel to a foreign clinic for cosmetic surgery.’
‘As with a lot of these unregulated procedures, it doesn’t exactly go to plan.’
Cosmetic tourism has hit the headlines in recent years with boob jobs, gastric bands, facelifts and ‘Turkey teeth’ surgeries becoming popular amongst Brits, who find it cheaper than paying privately in the UK.
The NHS website advises ‘weighing up potential savings against the potential risks’ as ‘safety standards may not be as high.’
Unfortunately, Bethany will learn this first hand as her decision to go under the knife abroad had devastating consequences, with her family forced to make a horrifying decision.
During her recovery, she suffers from a life-threatening infection, with her nearest and dearest on the other side of the world praying for her to pull through.
She’s had a super busy time since actress Lucy reprised her role following a three year break at the end of last year.
Having given up her journalism position in London, she searched desperately for her first big scoop in her hometown of Weatherfield to make some quick cash.
After quizzing Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) over Daisy Midgeley’s (Charlotte Jordan) affair with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) following his acid attack, she published the story in gossip magazine Chit Chat.
Bethany then became entwined in Lauren’s subsequent disappearance, convinced that her abuser Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) was responsible.
It’s likely that the new plot line could lead into a prolonged exit to facilitate Lucy’s maternity leave, after announcing she is pregnant with her second child.
And in her latest Instagram post, the soap star, 28, shared a video of her and partner Ryan Ledson staring at their phone in awe as they revealed the sex of their baby – a girl!
