Dark storyline unfolds for Bethany in Coronation Street ahead of botched surgery terror
Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) has not had an easy time since she returned to Coronation Street at new year. We learned that she was struggling in her journalism career after things didn’t go as well in London as she’d hoped.
In Weatherfield she and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) had soon rekindled their romance, but she used his breakup with Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) in the aftermath of her betrayal with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) as a basis for an article she was commissioned to write, as she scrabbled for paid work.
Then there was a huge shock for Bethany when her former abuser Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) appeared back in the area. Bethany was freaked out that the man who’d groomed and raped her previously was there as a constant reminder of what she’d been through.
Curtis was later arrested following the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), although viewers know that Joel Deering (Calum Lill) is actually responsible for what happened to Lauren.
Recently Lucy Fallon announced that she’s pregnant with her second child, although she posted on Instagram that she ‘won’t be away too long and I am returning after I pop the baby out.’
As Lucy prepares to take maternity leave, a hard-hitting and topical story is getting underway for Bethany, as the soap explores the dangers of undergoing cosmetic surgery abroad.
The story will see Bethany becoming increasingly insecure about her appearance and decide to book herself in for surgery abroad.
‘This is a huge story for Bethany, and viewers will see her travel to a foreign clinic for cosmetic surgery,’ a source exclusively told Metro.co.uk last month.
‘As with a lot of these unregulated procedures, it doesn’t exactly go to plan.’
The story begins in upcoming episodes when Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) mentions a job opportunity in Turkey – a friend of hers, the CEO of a cosmetic surgery company, is looking for someone to write advertorial on their new facility. Daniel thinks it sounds like a great opportunity, and Bethany messages Debbie to say she’ll accept the job.
Then a couple of things happen to knock her confidence. First she sees Daniel and Daisy hugging, and she can’t help worrying that they’re getting closer again.
She goes on a shopping trip to get things for her Turkey trip, but returns frustrated as she says every swimming costume she tried made her ‘look fat.’
With her body confidence low, will she be able to resist the temptation of the medical facilities she’s about to visit?
