Coronation Street star Sair Khan has confirmed her return to the cobbles after giving birth earlier this year.

The actress, who plays Alya Nazir on the ITV soap, welcomed her first child back in April.

After going on maternity leave, her character’s temporary exit aired a month later.

Those scenes saw Alya head to Dublin to take on a new job after she decided not to pursue the romantic spark between her and boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).

Sair has now revealed she is back at work with a post on her Instagram Story.

Sharing a shot of her scripts earlier this week, she wrote: ‘I’m Backstreet.’

Due to Corrie’s advance filming schedule, this means Sair’s return as Alya is likely to air in around six weeks time.

Sair, who joined the Coronation Street cast in 2014, first revealed she was pregnant with her partner Nathan Chilton back in December.

Announcing the birth of their son in April, the former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate wrote on Instagram: ‘He’s here!

‘Our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He’s super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour. We didn’t quite get the birth I’d hoped for but that’s okay (two birth pools, no water birth).’

She continued: ‘Somehow we’re off the starting blocks and I’m so unbelievably grateful for our healthy baby, for Nathan and the for the incredible support network around us for their patience, generosity and late night voice notes that have kept me going. Anyone else ever felt like there’s a DJ beat coming from your breast pump at 3am or is that what delirium is?!’
