Evil Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) reign of terror seems to be finally over in Coronation Street, as he’s gone missing – and presumed dead. Or is he?

As viewers of the ITV soap know, Joel’s vile behaviour has finally been exposed, as the residents realised that he was responsible for grooming and attacking Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) – forcing her into hiding for months.

Since then, his ex-fiancée Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown), Lauren and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) have worked together to bring him down.

In last night’s episode, there was a huge development.

We saw Dee-Dee return home in the early hours of the morning, clearly shaken up about something. Turning on the tap, her vision became blurred and she was visibly upset.

What has she been subjected to?

As she turned on her phone, a voicemail from Joel buzzed through. She didn’t know what to do, so headed straight for Weatherfield Police Station to speak with Lisa.

The two listened in as Joel sobbed, pleading for forgiveness from his former partner. Soon, DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) arrived with the news that he’d been able to track his last known location through his phone.

The two officers rushed off to an impressive looking viaduct in the middle of nowhere, and found his car parked beneath.

Upon their return, Lisa broke the news in Roy’s Rolls that they found a note attached to the car that implied Joel had taken his own life. Dee-Dee didn’t believe the claim, and suggested that it was an elaborate set-up to hide the fact he’d fled the area.

Outside of the café, Carla Connor (Alison King) became concerned for Lisa, who was wincing in pain and felt sick to her stomach. Lauren had similar worries when she’d tried to contact her during the night, but her phone was off.

Why is she behaving this way?

Still struggling to process the situation, Dee-Dee headed along to the viaduct herself so that she could see the scene for herself. Nearby, she found an abandoned car and reported back to Lisa and Kit.

Meanwhile, they’d began to have their own doubts over the circumstances, and found that his flat had been broken into. They searched for the paper used to write the note, and found the book amongst his possessions. The ‘suicide’ had clearly been thought out well in advance.

As the day came to a close, Kit found out the owner of the mystery car and they confirmed that they sold it to Joel – with his DNA and laptop found in it.

Suddenly it became apparent that something more sinister was at play.

Is Joel really dead? Did he take his own life? Why are Dee-Dee and Lisa acting so shifty?

We have so many questions…
