Coronation Street spoilers: Carla and Swain romance, Bethany heartbreak and Mason twist
Spoilers have lifted the lid on a difficult week for Coronation Street residents, as the Platts rally around Bethany amid her sepsis struggle. But romance could also blossom.
Plenty of drama will unravel this week in Coronation Street
Coronation Street spoilers have teased another week of drama for soap fans – and one theory involving villain Joel Deering could even be confirmed.
While the sinister solicitor is presumed dead after a shocking discovery (set to unravel this week on ITV ), Coronation Street legend Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon ) will be returning from Turkey after her botched liposuction landed her in hospital with sepsis.
Meanwhile, Mason Radcliffe ( Luca Toolan ) tries to put his bully past behind him while under Stu Carpenter’s wing. But as Eileen Grimshaw drips poison om Yasmeen’s ear, the wayward lad’s troubling secret comes to light.
Elsewhere, Carla Connor ( Alison King ) is due to face a court date over her charge for ABH but things go from bad to worse for the Underworld factory boss. And news from Peter Barlow about their divorce sends her over the edge. But could her blossoming bond with DS Lisa Swain ( Vicky Myers ) be the silver lining she needs?
Carla and Lisa’s connection grows from strength to strength but could it change after a tender moment?
Next week, Carla’s troubles begin when Lisa’s daughter Betsy ( Sydney Martin ) lets slip to an important client that she is in court for ABH and things go from bad to worse when Sally Metcalfe ( Sally Dynevor ) admits that Sarah Platt ( Tina O’Brien ) is in Turkey, following the news of Bethany’s sepsis.
Later on, the businesswoman comes face to face with Tom, the father of the lad she knocked over, in court, before heading back to the factory, where her client is less than impressed with her.
Frustrated, Carla takes her anger out on Betsy and Sarah, completely unaware that Tom has followed her back from court and is watching her overseeing a delivery. He later approaches her, making his rage clear. But in other scenes, a tender moment with Lisa leaves her confused about her feelings for the detective. Could she have felt it too?
While Carla finds comfort in Lisa in her time of need, things are very different for Sarah. Desperate to get her daughter Bethany back home from Turkey after her life-threatening infection, which resulted in a permanent stoma bag for the budding journalist, Sarah has been crippled by a staggering bill.
This prompts the Platt family to make a huge decision in her support as David ( Jack P. Shepherd ) breaks the news to his wife Shona ( Julia Goulding ) that their mother Gail ( Helen Worth ) has taken out a bridging loan to pay for Bethany’s flight home and she’s now committed to selling the house.
Later on, while everyone anxiously waits for Bethany’s return from Turkey, Daniel Osbourne ( Rob Mallard ) tells his father Ken Barlow ( William Roache ) he is worried he may be the reason for the insecurities that motivated her liposuction. Daniel later visits Bethany but Sarah, who ordered him away from her back in Turkey, doubles down, making it clear he is not welcome. But what will Bethany decide?
While this remains to be seen, the Platt family will also be welcoming a forgotten character back on to the cobbles as actor John Thomson will reprise the role of Jesse Chadwick after Sean Wilson’s brutal axe from the long-running soap. He is due to play a key role in actress Helen Worth’s exit from the Manchester-based show.
Upon her own comeback to Corrie from Thailand, Eileen Grimshaw ( Sue Cleaver ) will be gobsmacked to see her ex-boyfriend Jesse climbing out of a taxi. And when she spots Gail, she’s astounded to learn her arch nemesis met Jesse years ago in Thailand, while he insists he needed to check Gail was doing well amid Bethany’s struggle. But why is he back and what does he want?
Speaking of Eileen, the Corrie stalwart will have harsh words about Mason, as she will make it clear to a stunned Stu ( Bill Fellows ) and Yasmeen Nazir ( Shelley King ) that they are making a mistake in giving the troublemaker a second chance at life.
The pair have recently taken the teen in as an employee at Speed Daal as former homeless man Stu is convinced he can turn his life around after terrorising his schoolmates and, more particularly, Liam Connor.
In scenes due to air, Mason sets off to his college course, with Stu and Yasmeen’s well-wishes and while he manages to keep appearances up as Eileen expresses her thoughts, Stu soon trips over Mason’s bag and a hoodie falls out.
Suspicions arise again when he is quick to scoop the hoodie up to stuff it back in his bag and Eileen later gives Yasmeen some food for thought when she urges her not to allow Stu to bully her into keeping Mason around.
Mason was recently seen with a black eye he brushed off when Stu shared his concerns. When he spots Logan watching him from his car next week, Stu takes a stand for him. Later on, however, he and Yasmeen return home to find that someone has thrown a brick through their window, leaving Stu to tell his partner Logan is trying to pressure Mason into taking part in a robbery. How will she react?
Joel Deering ( Calum Lill ) is declared dead in scenes airing this week but many viewers believe the villain may have gone on the run to avoid repercussions for his vile actions – thoughts Dee-Dee Bailey ( Channique Sterling-Brown ) also shares.
In the café, Dee-Dee confides in Kit Green ( Jacob Roberts ) that she phoned the wedding venue and the holiday company and it would seem Joel has already recouped their deposits. But where is the money?
