Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) was back to her old ways in recent Coronation Street scenes – albeit by accident – when she started a fire in the family home.

The tearaway teen has been trying to hide the fact that she has been vaping, but tonight’s episode saw her have a close call when Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) walked in on her.

Hope managed to hide her vape in a bureau before she was spotted, but disaster soon struck when it ended up starting a fire.

Ruby Dobbs (Billie Naylor) was horrified to come home and find the fire, but luckily Evelyn was soon on hand to put it out with a fire blanket, after thinking better of using her own coat.

When Ruby later pointed out that Hope would be gutted to have missed the blaze, the cogs began to whir in Evelyn’s brain, though Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) shut down any suspicions by reminding her that she wasn’t even there.

However, it would later transpire that Evelyn was right to suspect notorious pyromaniac Hope, as Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) confirmed that a vape had started the fire.

Hope was quick to apologise and reveal that it was an accident, but it was too little too late for Tyrone, who made his fury clear in a shocking outburst.

Hope seemed genuinely upset as she promised it would never happen again, but Tyrone refused to believe her, insisting that this was just who she was, and who she would always be.

As Hope rushed out, Fiz was appalled, and warned Tyrone that he’d gone too far, though he insisted that she needed to realise that Hope had gone too far.

Will Hope ever be able to escape her fire-starting reputation?
