Bad news for major Coronation Street couple as legend confirms reunion is off the cards
Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) is currently sleeping on the sofa at the Platts’ house at number 8 Coronation Street, after his split with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) following the revelation that he’d been having an affair with her sister, Toyah (Georgia Taylor).
The affair started after Leanne became embroiled in the cultish Altovalent Institute under the influence of Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper). Leanne found pictures of Nick and Toyah together as she was deleting files from a laptop and a massive showdown with Nick ensued – with him admitting that he was in love with Toyah.
Eventually the two sisters decided their bond was too important to be destroyed over Nick – and he found himself ousted by bother of them.
In Monday (October 14)’s episode it was clear that there was one person who hadn’t given up hope that Nick and Leanne might get back together again, though – and that was Nick’s son, Sam (Jude Riordan).
Sam was in the bistro doing his homework and couldn’t help noticing that Nick was being very friendly with an attractive female customer, Carrie (Michelle Potter). There was definitely some flirting going on, and Sam wasn’t happy and decided to nip it in the bud.
He had a word with Carrie and told her that Nick was engaged to Leanne, and the woman realised she was bring warned off and soon left.
Later, Nick explained to Sam that being friendly with the customers was part of his job and he hadn’t meant anything by it.
‘I just want you and Leanne to make friends,’ Sam said.
‘We’re not engaged,’ Nick reminded him. ‘And we’re not getting back together.’ Sam wasn’t put off by this and asked Nick how he could be sure.
Sadly, Nick explained that Sam needed stability in his life and Nick felt he’d failed him. ‘I miss my mum,’ Sam said, and whether he meant his birth mother Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) or Leanne, the woman who’s been a mum to him for so long, it was hugely sad and Nick knew that his actions had caused Sam a lot of pain.
Nick told Sam he’d seen a couple of flats for them, one with a study nook that would be perfect for him to do his homework in.
But it’s clear that what Sam really wants is his old life, with Leanne and Nick back together again. It’s equally clear that, for the time being anyway, there’s very little chance of that happening.
