The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Coronation Street that hasn’t aired on ITV yet, but is available to view on ITVX.

Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) received some very worrying news in tonight’s episode of Coronation Street.

The Winter-Brown family have been through an awful lot ever since Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) death in September. Needing a break, Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) announced to Chesney recently that she was off to the Lakes with the quads and Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove).

It left Chesney at home alone with son Joseph (William Flanagan), who was very much looking forward to his skiing trip. All Chesney needed to do was go to work for a bit, and then take Joseph to the airport.

Sounds simple enough, but when Chesney missed a number of calls from his son, his day fell apart very quickly.

Joseph told Ches that his flight had been brought forward, which meant they had to race to the airport.

While this was happening, Kirk (Andy Whyment) was looking after the kebab shop for Ches. Unfortunately, Kirk was treated to a visit from a health inspector.

The inspector asked Kirk a variety of questions about the standards in the shop, including why he wasn’t cutting salad with protective gloves on. Because Kirk never realised what was going on, the inspection went horribly.

Chesney and Joseph returned to the cobbles and broke the news to a passing Rita (Barbara Knox) that the flight had been missed. Luck was on their side temporarily, however, as Rita decided to lend Chesney the money to pay for Joseph to catch another plane.

Racing back to the kebab shop, Ches was horrified when he found Hewitt talking to Kirk.

As time ticked on, Hewitt observed the hygiene levels in the establishment and concluded they weren’t good enough.

Due to this, along with Kirk’s performance earlier in the day, the inspector announced the kebab shop needed to close until Dev and Ches sort the situation out.

While the loss of income won’t impact Dev a massive amount as he has other businesses on the cobbles, no work at the kebab shop means Chesney doesn’t have a great deal of cash coming in, given Gemma is currently away.

How will Chesney cope?
