Carla Connor gutted by rejection from traumatised and injured DS Lisa Swain in Coronation Street

Carla Connor (Alison King) is set to be left gutted by a rejection from DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) in upcoming Coronation Street scenes, and the real reason is heartbreaking.

Carla and Lisa have grown close over the past few months, and recently things changed between them when they shared a charged moment.

After Carla opened up about her divorce and Lisa made a devastating admission about her mental health, the women shared a hug, before Carla begged Lisa not to put herself in danger.

As Carla pushed Lisa’s hair back behind her ears, Lisa grew overwhelmed and fled the flat.

The next day, the women were keen to put their moment behind them, insisting that they didn’t want to ruin their friendship.

However, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) was quick to catch on to the awkwardness between them, and teased Carla about her new crush, urging her not to be embarrassed or in denial.

Meanwhile, Lisa decided to put Carla totally out of her mind in order to focus on daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), who pointed out that it was now just the two of them without Becky around.

In upcoming scenes, Carla and Lisa once again spend time together, and Carla is quick to praise her for managing to juggle work and motherhood.

However, as Carla lays a comforting hand on Lisa, the detective flinches and makes a swift exit, leaving Carla gutted.

The next day, Betsy is shocked when she walks in on Lisa in the bathroom, examining some painful bruises.

Lisa tries to brush it off, assuring her that she obtained the injuries in a body combat class, but Betsy is unconvinced.

‘The fact that she’s come out with something not really convincing, and also Betsy knows her all too well, says a lot,’ actress Vicky Myers explained. ‘She was put on the spot, because the way that it happens, she’s in the safety of her own bathroom and she doesn’t for one second feel that Betsy is going to just come barging in. So she was caught off guard.

‘She’s been out of sorts for a few weeks. We’ve definitely seen her in pain. So what has happened here?’

When Betsy finds a bottle of painkillers dated September 28, she relays her findings to Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), who shocks her by pointing out that Joel Deering (Calum Lill) was killed on September 27.

Later, Betsy overhears Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) mentioning that Joel had been in a fight on the night he was killed, and the revelation leaves Betsy shaken.

Meanwhile, Ryan questions Carla about her own movements on the night of Joel’s death. She insists that she just popped out to the factory to switch off the lights. The next day, she admits to Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) that she lied to the police and told them that she had been in the flat with him and Ryan all night.

Still trying to keep the truth about her bruises from Betsy, Lisa lies again, this time insisting that she suffered an office injury.

‘She absolutely has something to hide,’ Vicky teased. ‘But being a person in the profession that she’s in, there are different scraps and scrapes that you get into, but maybe not to the magnitude that would present with bruising like that. So what has happened there?

‘And the fact that she has lied and said to Betsy about body combat, that adds more question marks to it. So hopefully the truth will out in time.’

With Carla and Lisa both lying, what do they have to hide?
