Horror end for major Coronation Street character as he ‘freezes to death’
Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) continues to spiral in the aftermath of Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) death in Coronation Street.
Beloved character Paul died in September after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
After Billy went out in search of his missing phone, Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and Summer (Harriet Bibby) found Paul unresponsive on the sofa and rushed him to hospital.
While Paul was tended to by doctors and nurses, Billy was racing through Manchester trying to get to the hospital in time. Unfortunately, Paul died before Billy got there.
After several weeks of preparation, Billy led Paul’s funeral service as his friends and family gathered – including a surprising visitor.
Ahead of the ceremony, Billy found Paul’s dad Denny in the church and warned him to keep out of sight during the funeral – but unfortunately, Bernie soon discovered that Billy had allowed Denny to stay.
Hurt, Bernie began to row with Billy, and soon let slip that Paul had already passed away during their final phone call, despite him believing otherwise, leaving Billy devastated.
Coming up, Billy’s concerning behaviour continues when Summer finds a strange man in the flat. Billy admits he invited Wayne back after meeting him at an addicts group.
In the pub, Paul’s friends and family gather for the celebrations. Just as everyone watches Paul’s ashes get released, the screen suddenly goes blank.
Attention turns to a very drunk Billy, who has pulled the lead out of the laptop. He declares the whole thing a farce and confesses that he made a pass at Todd (Gareth Pierce) after Paul’s funeral.
As the night continues, Billy makes his way behind the factory and carries on drinking. At this point, it’s early November so it’s bitterly cold.
Completely broken and devastated by the loss of Paul, Billy listens to old voice clips from him. Just as his phone battery dies, Billy closes his eyes, utterly alone.
Meanwhile, Bernie goes in search of her in-law. Will she find him in time?
