Gemma Winter returns to devastating news in Coronation Street – and she’s not alone
Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) took a break from the cobbles of Coronation Street last week when she took Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and the quads on holiday.
The family have been grieving the loss of Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and decided to take a break from life in Weatherfield.
However, while they were away, things fell apart for Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) when he left Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) in charge of the kebab shop.
It was during that time that the health inspector decided to visit, and shut the place down after finding cockroaches in the kitchen.
In last night’s episode, Gemma was left gutted when Chesney had to head out to do a deep clean of the kebab shop in order to get it back up to standard.
Meanwhile, Bernie visited Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) to talk about Paul’s ashes, which she was planning on sending into space.
However, when she suggested that it didn’t feel right not sending all of him, Billy argued that he had already made plans of what to do with his share.
Later, Bernie headed into the shop to ask Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) where Paul’s ashes had gone, panicking that the quads had accidentally binned them.
Dev tried to assure her that he had sent the ashes off safely with the space company, but this only left Bernie more distressed, as she didn’t get to say a proper goodbye.
Thankfully, she later realised that Dev meant well and forgave him.
However, things only got worse for the family when Chesney later found out that Dev was refusing to pay him until the kebab shop was open again.
Though Chesney asked him for more shifts in some of his other businesses, Dev refused, encouraging Chesney to look for work elsewhere and leaving him horrified.
When Bernie found out about this, she was disgusted, and pointed out that they were supposed to all be a family.
Though Dev argued that he needed to look after his businesses, Bernie pointed out that Chesney had five kids to look after, and couldn’t believe that Dev would leave them in such a worrying position.
Will Dev be able to make it up to her and the family?
Meanwhile, Chesney was able to pick up some shifts as a delivery driver, but Gemma was disappointed to learn that it was a zero-hour contract. Will everything work out?
