Coronation Street aired a shock twist in recent scenes when Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) appeared, despite having been killed off in September.

Paul died after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, and tonight’s episode saw his family say a final goodbye as his ashes were launched into space.

Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) had come up with the idea to send Paul’s ashes into space – something that Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) thought was tacky.

As Paul’s friends and family gathered to watch the video of his final ascent, drunk Billy switched off the film and declared the whole thing a farce.

He then confessed to kissing Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) on the day of Paul’s funeral, which left Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) horrified.

Devastated Billy then took himself off, leaving his family concerned for his whereabouts.

As Bernie quizzed Todd on the happenings of the night of Paul’s funeral, he expressed his concern for Billy’s wellbeing, and the pair decided to head out and look for him.

Meanwhile, Billy had taken refuge behind the factory, where he listened to voice messages from Paul until his phone ran out of battery.

Still drunk, Billy began to drift off, before hearing Paul’s voice in the distance.

When Billy opened his eyes, Paul was stood in front of him, calling his name.

With Billy out in the freezing cold, hallucinating, will he be found before it’s too late?
