The legendary character is facing his toughest challenge yet as Cassie wants to get her hands on his cash
CORONATION Street has taken a dark twist with Cassie Plummer’s sick scheme against Ken Barlow.
The troubled recovering drug addict – who is played by actress Claire Sweeney in the ITV soap – has been determined to relieve Ken of his recent premium bonds winnings.
He won a huge £50,000 on them earlier this year, and has already lavishly splashed out on carer Cassie on a holiday to Portugal.
The development had left his family concerned that Cassie was taking advantage of Ken – which she has been.
As Adam, Steve and Amy welcomed Ken back home – he knew what they had been planning.
And to cut them off, he informed them that after reviewing his finances – as well as his health improving – he would be letting Cassie go.
He then booked them into the Bistro for a champagne lunch to let her down gently.
Appearing to take the news graciously, Cassie told Ken she understood and immediately began looking for new work.
Her act was so convincing that Ken offered to help her and invited her back to his – and paying her for the privilege.
But after Ken let her go, Cassie decided to take revenge.
As they worked on her CV, she went to make Ken a drink and fetch his medication.
Heading off into the kitchen to make him a brew, Cassie secretly took out another pill and crushed it up into his tea.
Setting it down in front of him, she handed him his actual pills and then laughed as Ken began drinking.
The dark twist could be the reason Ken is rushed to hospital later this week.
He ends up begging Cassie to return, with a pay rise, convinced his health is declining again.
But how far will Cassie go to ensure she keeps her job? And how much danger is Ken really in?
