Coronation Street is rocked by some devastating news next week when word reaches Weatherfield that Les Battersby (Bruce Jones) has died.

While Les’ daughter Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and step-daughter Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) are united in their grief, there is someone else who is struggling after hearing the news.

Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) is already having a tough week when he hears that his former step father has passed away.

As fans of the ITV soap will remember, Les and Chesney became somewhat of a double act during the 2000s, after Les married his mum Cilla Battersby-Brown (Wendi Peters).

After he’s nearly mowed down by a van at Freshco’s car park earlier in the week, Chesney is stressed and struggling to make ends meet and looking after his and wife Gemma Winter-Brown’s (Dolly-Rose Campbell) five kids on his own is taking its toll.

Chesney covers his grief and heartbreakingly tells Gemma’s mum Bernie Winters (Jane Hazlegrove) that he and Les weren’t that close.

Les was a mainstay on Coronation Street between 1997 and 2007.

Actor Bruce Jones recently revealed how he felt to hear the news bosses had decided to kill off his character off-screen.

‘[Show bosses] already emailed me over a fortnight ago to tell me what was happening. I actually thought, well fine, I played him for ten years. It gives me closure. Maybe it will stop people asking me all the time when I’m going back, if I’m going back’, he explained to MailOnline.

‘They gave me ten years and I invented a great character and it became a great hit with everyone. I wish them all the luck in the world.’
