Coronation Street star Sean Wilson has returned to his ‘normal job’ after his soap comeback was in tatters following a historical sex offense claim.

The actor is best known for playing Martin Platt in the ITV soap from 1985 to 2005 before returning for a brief stint in 2018. He was said to be reuniting with the cast once again for former on-screen wife Helen Worth ‘s departure from Corrie, but in September it was confirmed Sean would not be back on the show, with ITV citing ‘personal reasons’.

Sean later revealed how his ‘world was blown apart’ by an allegation of indecent assault dating back 27 years. He was told by officers on November 21 that there would be no further action and Greater Manchester Police confirmed the suspect had been released and should any new information come forward, it will be considered.

During his time away from the Cobbles, Sean started making cheese and has even won accolades at the British Cheese Awards and became a lecturer in cheese. He took to X to share Christmas recommendations with fans and said: “@sainsburys⁩ ⁦@Tesco⁩ Both take the best British Cheddar in Wyke Farms Vintage.

“Completely sustainable and more awards for taste than any other cheddar. These will be my cheddar choice for my awesome Xmas cheese board. Let me know how you get on with it.. S xx.” Sean started his own cheese-making business called Saddleworth Cheese Company with his ex Susie Fenwick.

The TV actor was axed from Coronation Street this summer after filming scenes with Helen Worth and took to Twitter /X to share a message about the exit. He simply said in September: “Thanks for all the love xxx”, which was accompanied by a large light display that read “LOVE”.

The scenes that were being filmed were expected to be aired over autumn. According to reports concern for Sean was raised during his chat with bosses. After being cleared by police, he said last month that his “whole world was blown apart” because of the sex claim.

Sean was informed he was axed pending a police inquiry into an alleged indecent assault from 27 years ago. However, he wasn’t given any more details at the time and in November heard from police that there would be no further action over the claim. Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, he said: “My reputation was ruined in just eight minutes — my whole world blown apart. I had no idea who had made this complaint or anything about it but I lost my job. It’s been hell. I’ve been low all the way through.”

He explained how he got a call in February regarding his return to the Cobbles, with him agreeing to a four-month, ten-episode contract. He said he “jumped at the chance” to return to his role. He filmed ten scenes in July and soon got an email from bosses on August 1 which ‘stunned him’.

Executives told him they received an allegation that he “put his hands up a woman’s skirt”. The executives told the actor the police contacted them and informed them that the case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Sean told the publication he was “bewildered” and was told bosses had to “cut his contract” and “protect their cast”.

On October 25, Sean attended a voluntary interview with a Detective Constable at Longsight police station. Sean said he was “relieved beyond belief” when, on November 21 police, said there would be no further action.
