Coronation Street legend’s death is a cover-up as company ‘cuts corners’
This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
There were tears all round in recent Coronation Street scenes as the Battersbys laid dad Les to rest.
Leanne and Toyah (Jane Danson and Georgia Taylor) recently got the devastating news that Les had been killed in an accident at work, and were left shaken by the sudden loss.
Earlier this week, they attended his will reading, where it was revealed that the abattoir Les was working at when he died was willing to pay the sisters and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) a share of £50k – provided they signed an NDA.
When Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) heard about this, she was suspicious, and in tonight’s episode it became clear that she was right to question the abattoir’s motives.
During Les’ wake, Chesney was approached by a man who worked alongside Les, who insisted he owed it to the classic character to tell his family the truth.
As the man revealed that the company had previously cut corners when it came to health and safety, leading to several serious injuries in the past, he explained that he believed there was a cover-up going on.
When Chesney relayed this to Bernie, she was quick to ask Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) to help them get justice.
However, Dee-Dee insisted that she wasn’t in the right headspace to take on their case, leaving them back at square one.
Will Chesney ever get to the truth of what really happened to Les?
