Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) is brought back down to earth with a bang when he returns to Coronation Street in upcoming scenes to devastating news about Carla Connor (Alison King).
When Ryan heads to Ireland to visit mum Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) over New Year, he doesn’t expect to come home to a barrage of questions from Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
Having suffered a burst pipe in her flat, leaving the place flooded, Lisa is relieved when Carla offers to let her and Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) move in until the problem is sorted.
Things seem to be going well between the trio – aside from a sarcastic comment from Betsy when the couple announce their relationship to the Underworld staff – despite the fact that Betsy was responsible for the attack on Carla that left her needing emergency surgery for a bleed on the brain.
Tragically, everything starts to go wrong on New Year’s Day, when Roy Cropper (David Neilson) grows concerned for Carla’s wellbeing.
When he realises that she is hearing things and appears confused, the cafe owner encourages her to go home and rest.
Unable to shake his worries, Roy later pops round to the flat to visit her, and is horrified to find her barely conscious on the living room floor.
After Roy calls an ambulance, Carla is rushed to hospital, where the doctor reveals that she may be suffering from sepsis.
Meanwhile, Lisa is determined to prove that Matty Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff) had something to do with Becky’s murder, so remains totally oblivious to what’s going on at home.
When Lisa heads back to Carla’s flat with flowers and wine for her girlfriend, she soon finds that there is no sign of her.
The next day, it becomes clear to Lisa that Carla has lied about her whereabouts when Ryan returns from his trip to Ireland.
