Coronation Street legend who left after 23 years reunites with longtime co-stars

Coronation Street legend Chris Gascoyne has reunited with his former co-stars Georgia Taylor and Jane Danson.

The Toyah Habeeb and Leanne Battersby actresses, who first appeared in 1997, were a vision of happiness as they caught up with the Peter Barlow actor, backstage at a theatre.

Chris left the show last year after appearing intermittently since 2000.

When Peter hit and killed murderous Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) with his car, his alcoholism was on the brink of relapsing.

His wife Carla Connor (Alison King) realised that a fresh start was needed, and surrendered their relationship for the sake of his health.

It was a move that left Peter stunned but he eventually accepted the gesture, knowing how beneficial starting over would be.

Recently, his son Simon (Alex Bain) went to join him abroad, working on a boat. Carla was dismayed that her ex-husband had moved on, though she’s now found new love in DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Chris is currently starring at Bradford Alhambra Theatre’s pantomime production of Pinocchio. The 56 year old actor is playing Stromboli, the villain of the piece.

Earlier this month, cobbles stars David Neilson, Peter Gunn and Jack Carroll all headed over to the Yorkshire city to see him on stage.

Yesterday, Georgia shared a sweet pic of their reunion on Instagram, writing: ‘Watching our beloved PB giving his best baddie in Pinocchio. Eyeliner and black nail varnish never looked so good on a guy.’

Fans rushed into the comment section to express how much they miss seeing Chris in the show.

‘A lovely photo of you all…do miss Chris playing Peter’ wrote one.

Another added: ‘Oooh Peter Barlow. Missing my eye candy on corrie.’

Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Abi Webster, penned: ‘Joyous!’

When Georgia returned to the show in 2016 after 13 years, Toyah was in a secret relationship with Peter – a move which devastated his ex-wife Leanne.

The story is not too dissimilar to one currently playing out over the Christmas period, as Leanne exacts revenge on her sister for having an affair with her fiancée Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

Toyah is left shocked this yuletide when DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) arrests her for theft and fraud by abuse of trust.
As viewers have seen, Leanne has been transferring funds from the Viaduct Bistro to a dodgy account set up under Toyah’s name.

When Leanne later finds presents from Nick to Toyah, she decides to up the ante by taking them to the police station and telling Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) that she believes Toyah and Nick were in it together.

Will Toyah and Nick realise before it’s too late?
