Former Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt has unveiled a huge hair transformation after chopping off his long locks.

The actor is best known for playing the cobbles’ Nick Tilsley from 1997 to 2004, before Ben Price took over the role in 2009.

He also had a brief pop career, releasing an album in 1999 and reaching No. 5 in the UK singles chart with I Breathe Again. After failing to get to the top of the list, he was dropped from record label Polydor.

He recently stunned his wife, Good Morning Britain reporter Katy Fawcett, when he cut his hair off in the gin bar they run together.

Adam took a pair of scissors to his hair and cut off his ponytail while working behind the bar of Dexter & Jones in Knutsford in Cheshire, which the couple took over in 2019.

A video they shared on Instagram revealed Katy’s shocked reaction as he waved his hacked-off hair at the camera.

Katy Rickitt & husband Adam - It may seem like we celebrate every milestone but this is the one that means the most to us. 13 years ago today I went out to interview a man about a dog? well actually @adamrickitt about a RSPCA home for dogs! A one hour interview lasted a day, a first lunch date lasted beyond dinner and then we made the vows to last a lifetime! We just worked out it?s a third of my life? that doesn?t seem enough I can barely remember anything beforehand. I love this man with all my heart and soul. Happy ?gotcha? day xx Instagram/@katyrickitt

He then had a bit of professional help to get his barnet looking sharp, revealing he had also dyed it platinum blonde.

A caption on the video read: ‘The new Barnet is back!!!! And I bloody love it!!’

Adam grew out his locks after leaving his regular Hollyoaks role – where he played Kyle Kelly – between 2017 and 2020.

In a bizarre soap crossover, Christopher Quinten, famed for playing Nick’s dad Brian Tilsley in Corrie, made a guest appearance as Kyle’s dad in Hollyoaks.

He debuted his longer ‘do when he made a short stint in the now-defunct BBC daytime soap Doctors in December last year.

In 2018, he opened up about his experience with hair loss, revealing he had been undergoing a variety of non-invasive treatments to restore his hair, rather than having a transplant.

He told The Mirror at the time: ‘If I’d left it, it probably would’ve ended up going bald or very thin. From a career point of view it would have restricted some of the roles I could do.

‘From a personal point of view I would have been a bit gutted. I’m not going to deny it.’

He recently discussed his agent’s dismay when he turns down acting jobs.

‘I love acting. I’m always going to act but I was sick of doing rubbish jobs I didn’t want to do,’ he told Knutsford Guardian.

‘It was the same thing for Katy. She loved doing the news but she didn’t like how tired it made her when she was doing it 24/7.

‘So our shared dream was to take over Dexter & Jones and to find that balance.’
