Deep fears for depressed Phil in EastEnders as he ‘gets his affairs in order’
Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) was incredibly worried about Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) in tonight’s EastEnders, as she learnt of his plans to sell his shares in the Boxing Den.
Before 2024 ended, Sharon visited Phil’s house and was shocked at the state it was in. Rubbish piled high in the kitchen and he had even taken down his family photographs. Phil argued that he didn’t need a reminder of all the family members he’s lost, which left Sharon concerned.
Phil has found a pleasant distraction in recent weeks thanks to the return of old mate Nigel (Paul Bradley). Despite enjoying Nigel’s company, Phil’s problems haven’t gone away.
Yesterday, Phil arrived in the café and announced to a very surprised Jay (Jamie Borthwick), Billy (Perry Fenwick) and Nigel that he was beginning the process to sell his shares in the Boxing Den to his mate.
Tonight’s episode saw Nigel try and get Phil to change his mind about the offer, pointing out he really doesn’t have that much experience in running successful businesses.
Phil essentially didn’t give Nigel any choice but to have the shares. Later in the day, Nigel found Sharon outside and updated her, and she wasn’t impressed.
In the pub, Sharon tried to push Phil for some answers but he wasn’t in the mood to talk. As he stood up to leave, he told Sharon that he’s ‘done’ and ‘tired’ – another worrying sign.
That evening, Sharon, Jay, Billy, Teddy (Roland Manookian) and Nigel discussed Phil’s situation in the café.
Noting Phil’s decision to also sell Peggy’s, Teddy said it seemed like he was getting his affairs in order, a phrase typically used when someone is setting up a will, or preparing for their death.
With that, the group arrived at Phil’s, determined to get some answers.
Sharon led the confrontation and wondered if Phil had received a diagnosis of something, perhaps relating to his mind.
Phil denied he was ‘going soft in the head’ and said he didn’t need to keep his house tidy because he’s a ‘bachelor’.
Unfortunately, Phil’s loved ones weren’t able to get any further as he got distracted by Nigel suddenly disappearing.
The developments involving Phil tonight have confirmed the iconic face is seriously struggling with his mental health. But will brother Grant (Ross Kemp) return to Walford in time to help?
