This article contains spoilers for tonight’s episode of EastEnders, which airs on BBC One at 7.30pm but can be streamed now on BBC iPlayer.

Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) has been found not guilty amid Debbie’s murder trial – but devastation has soon followed for one Albert Square legend.

This week, poor Son’ faced the prospect of spending the rest of her life at His Majesty’s Pleasure, and this week has faced trial for a murder she didn’t commit.

As viewers know, it was actually her cruel fiancé Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) who smothered his comatose wife with a pillow in her private care home to give himself some financial freedom.

He then proceeded to hold her sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) hostage in a storage lockup after she uncovered incriminating evidence that proved he was the killer.

CCTV footage revealed the moment he rushed away from the scene of the crime and allowed his doting Sonia to take the blame.

Since then, Bianca has attempted every avenue to escape her own prison, whilst a heavily pregnant Sonia has actually been behind bars.

Earlier this week, she decided that the was going to change her not guilty plea in the hope it gave her a reduced sentence and a brighter future for her unborn child.

Reiss was truly devastated, aware that it could spark further upheaval for his ‘perfect’ future that he had planned for them both.

As a result, Bianca was forced to take desperate measures and she threw her little sis a lifeline by offering to record a guilty confession – on the promise that she was released from the confines of the storage unit and allowed to go on the run.

In yesterday’s episode, Reiss rushed into the court room at the eleventh hour and presented the video confession, claiming that he’d been sent it from a guilt-ridden Bianca.

Unfortunately for him, Sonia’s solicitor advised that it could take months for the CPS to find the evidence admissable and a retrial would have to be scheduled.

Resorting to more desperate measures, Reiss confronted a member of the jury and told her to watch the confession. His plan worked.

Debbie’s mother Brenda Collins (Nichola McAuliffe) watched on in horror as Sonia was declared not guilty and allowed to return to Walford.

Her friends and family persuaded her to come to The Vic for a celebratory drink, where the conversation soon turned to Bianca. Sonia desperately wanted to see the video, but Reiss claimed he no longer had a copy.

Later that night, he snuck off to the lockup to tell Bianca the good news – but also told her that he couldn’t trust her not to seek revenge. She would be forced to spend the rest of her days inside the container.

She burst out crying, pleading for him not to leave her chained to a sofa any longer.

The door slammed shut. He headed home.

Poor B’!

Sonia was struggling to comprehend that her sister would commit a murder, but Reiss insisted that she must believe that she’s a murderer.

She said that if that is true, she needed to find Bianca herself and discover the truth.

Will she notice Reiss’ odd behaviour, and will Bianca ever be found?
