EastEnders has confirmed a slight change to its schedule this week for a very special reason.

The iconic soap, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary next month, usually airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Episodes are also available to view early on BBC iPlayer, from 6am.

It’s quite a common occurrence for the show to slightly alter its airtime to facilitate sporting events such as the Olympics, or Wimbledon.

Tonight the show will air at a slightly later time for a very special reason – accommodating commemorative programming to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

At 7pm, in place of The One Show, BBC News host Reeta Chakrabarti will mark eight years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

This will then be followed by live coverage of iconic buildings and landmarks across the country lit up in purple.

As a result, EastEnders will air in a later time slot at 8pm, but is already available to stream now.

There are no further changes for the rest of the week.

In tonight’s episode, the atmosphere is frosty between Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) after she interfered with his efforts to save the Turpin Road market.

Sadly, Councillor Barker later announces that he’s also closing the fruit and veg stall down on health and safety grounds.

How will Martin react?

Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) is suspicious of her sister Gina (Francesca Henry), who continues to meet up in secret with Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway).

Events soon come to a head in The Queen Vic when Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) reveals a shocking secret.
Following her release from prison, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) is adamant to shut down the local gossips, who are branding sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) a murderer.

Determined to find out more information, she speaks with uncle Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) in the hope of getting the confession tape from the CPS.

Elsewhere, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) makes a costly mistake ahead of his wedding to Honey (Emma Barton).

Another busy week is afoot in The Square!
