Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) has been back in the Emmerdale village for just over a week, and already he is causing trouble among the locals.

Surprisingly, the only person he has yet to upset is the formidable Kim Tate (Claire King), who is understandably fragile after the sudden, unexpected death of husband Will Taylor (Dean Andrews).

In tonight’s episode, he continued to raise suspicions for Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley), when he offered to take her place at the meeting regarding Will’s funeral, having already sent away a well-meaning Jimmy and Nicola King (Nick Miles and Nicola Wheeler).

However, Dawn refused to be pushed out, and soon joined Kim and Joe in the cemetery, where they’d chosen to lay Will to rest.

As the trio emerged, they bumped into Caleb Miligan (William Ash), who couldn’t resist a sly dig about the number of Kim’s husbands that have ended up dead.

Joe was quick to snap back at his uncle, unaware that they were related.

Dawn soon informed Joe of their shared blood, though Joe was quick to point out that his was 100% Tate, while Caleb was half Dingle.

After smugly pointing out that that would have made his parents siblings, Caleb asked Joe to join him for a drink some time, which Joe immediately turned down.

Instead, he told Caleb to ‘scurry off to wherever you Dingle leeches spawn from’, insisting that he already knew all there was to know about his grandad’s son.

Caleb remained unaffected by Joe’s dig, but made sure to point out that Joe’s half-brother, Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), had heard every word.

Joe was quick to try and take it back, but Noah refused to engage, clearly gutted that his brother thought so little of his family.

Later, Joe faced the wrath of Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in the pub as he attempted to apologise to Noah.

She pointed out that they all believed he’d died, before suggesting that instead of mourning there had been celebration.

When Joe then made a dig at Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) for leaving him for dead, Cain warned him to stay out of Noah’s life, or he’d finish the job next time.

Will Joe and Noah ever be able to repair their relationship?
