Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay) was left furious in recent Emmerdale scenes when Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) ‘ruined’ her birthday.

The relationship between Steph and Ruby has been difficult, with Steph having felt abandoned by her mother when she was sent to boarding school at a young age.

However, with Steph back in her life, Ruby has been making an effort to try and reconnect, and part of this involved planning a special birthday celebration in tonight’s episode.

Steph was surprised when she came downstairs to find the house decorated, and was thrilled when Ruby revealed that she planned to make Steph’s favourite meal.

However, her plans were derailed when Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day) arrived and revealed he had booked them a table at The Hide.

Ruby was clearly disappointed, but agreed to go along with the new plans if they were what Steph wanted.

At the restaurant, it was clear that Ruby was struggling with being in Anthony’s presence, as she threw back glass after glass of champagne.

It didn’t take long for her to get drunk, and things took a turn when Anthony presented Steph with a new necklace for her birthday.

When he offered to put it on for her and bent down towards her neck, Ruby was horrified, and yelled at him to stop.

Viewers will understand that Ruby was attempting to protect Steph, having been sexually abused by Anthony as a child.

However, Steph didn’t see it that way, and got even angrier when drunk Ruby accidentally broke the necklace.

Furious that her birthday had been ruined, Steph demanded that Ruby leave.

Later, an upset Ruby was keen to apologise to her daughter, but was left on edge when she realised that Anthony had returned home alone.

As Anthony berated her for her behaviour, Ruby was quick to point out that it was his fault she was in this state.

However, Anthony cruelly twisted the situation, making out like it was Ruby’s guilt for sleeping with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) that had caused her to react the way she had.

Will Ruby be able to repair her relationship with Steph, or will Anthony continue to tear the family apart?
