Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) was taken aback in last night’s episode of Emmerdale as he witnessed an angry outburst from boyfriend John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
Ever since John’s arrival to the village, he’s portrayed himself as a quiet, lone wolf.
Initially, John was very reluctant to stick around in the Dales and build a relationship with new sister Vic (Isabel Hodgins), but then decided to stay when he started seeing Aaron.
Aaron and John are two characters who certainly don’t wear their hearts on their sleeves, but the connection they have appears to be strong – and was made even stronger in Thursday’s episode.
After Aaron attacked sex abuser Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day), John found him acting strangely and also spotted blood on his neck.
When they arrived at the depot, Anthony was dead, which left Aaron utterly convinced he had killed him.
With that, John took control of the situation and dealt with removing Anthony’s body. As a previous member of the army, John knew what to do and managed the aftermath a lot better than a panicked Aaron.
In last night’s episode, John continued to tell Aaron that he needed to act normal and pretend nothing has happened. He tried his best, but hearing Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay) and Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) talk about Anthony that evening in the pub made Aaron feel overwhelmed.
Outside, Aaron stood in front of Anthony’s hidden car and wondered what on earth they’d do with it. John attempted to get him to calm down, but grew increasingly frustrated when Aaron didn’t.
As a result, John snapped and shouted. It was unexpected and loud, so much so it left Aaron taken aback.
John told his boyfriend that he needs his help, because Anthony’s death is too much to deal with on his own. He said that they’d work together to hide the car, therefore covering their backs once more.
Fans of the ITV soap have speculated for ages that John is hiding a dark secret, and the change in personality we saw last night was another hint there’s a side to the character we are yet to discover.
Just how long will it be until we get some answers?
