Emmerdale star Danny Miller has broken his silence on his increasingly infamous stint on Celebrity Mastermind, in which viewers noted he seemed ‘p***** off’.

Each of the celebrities appears on the show to raise cash for a much-needed cause, and Danny, known for his role as Aaron Dingle, chose Once Upon a Smile, which helps people with bereavement support.

He has long been associated with the charity and organises an annual ball to support them.

With 90 seconds on the clock, he had to answer questions based on his specialised subject of writer and playwright, Julia Donaldson, who is best known for penning children’s smash hit The Gruffalo.

After picking up a fairly respectable seven points, he then had two minutes to add to the total in the general knowledge round – but managed to get just three correct.

When Clive Myrie crowned Elizabeth Rizzini the winner, Danny slumped back into his chair and looked visibly pained by his efforts – and it didn’t go unnoticed by fans on social media.

The actor has approached the discussion with good humour, noting that even wife Steph wondered why he was sulking.

‘Steph said to me: “why did you look like that? It looks bad!” The truth of the matter is I was embarrassed and really gutted I hadn’t got more points.

‘I can’t hide my feelings! I didn’t want to let myself down and make a fool of myself. But there were smarter, wiser celebrities against me.’

He added to The Mirror: ‘I will never go back on that show! It’s hard.

‘I do enjoy doing quizzes – but maybe I will do something a bit more laid back like The Chase.’

Don’t let the Governess hear you call The Chase laid back!

In other Danny Miller updates, he is central to a storyline which has seen Emmerdale paedophile Anthony killed, with viewers witnessing Aaron being left with a body on his hands.

And the actor jokingly admitted he fears for his mortgage if the storyline leads to an exit for Aaron.

He said to his 712,000 Instagram followers: ‘I’ve got two kids and a mortgage to pay! I need another contract!!!!!’
