Emmerdale fans are starting to wonder if Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) and Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) were hiding a secret from their friends in the village, before Suzy’s tragic death.
Suzy’s girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) was left utterly heartbroken earlier this week when the wedding planner was killed in the devastating limo crash.
After Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) swerved off the road, the limo crashed into a frozen lake, and the impact killed Suzy immediately.
Prior to her death, Suzy and Mary had been friends for a while, but audience members of the ITV soap know Mary’s feelings for Suzy run a little deeper than just mates.
Shortly after Mary came out, Suzy became her confidante as she navigated the world of dating.
The events planner was also Mary’s source of support during the awful Faye debacle which saw Mary fall for a con-woman who scammed her for thousands of pounds.
It ultimately saw Mary develop romantic feelings for Suzy, but she came to realise this just as her ex Vanessa returned.
This left Mary believing she didn’t stand a chance as Suzy began spending time with Vanessa again.
After Suzy spent the night on Vanessa’s sofa, she knew addressing their relationship was important, but she couldn’t stop thinking about Mary.
During a chat, Suzy asked Mary how she felt about her. Aware of what was going on, Mary prevented herself from any possible hurt and told Suzy that she’s a good friend.
Last week, we saw Mary express her fondness for Suzy once more as she prepared to host the Take a Vow raffle in the pub.
Mary told Suzy that she ‘always knows how to light up a room’ and a little while later, we saw Suzy watching Mary as she walked back to the bar.
The scene left many fans of the ITV soap convinced something was going on between the two characters.
During the Valentine’s Day instalment of Emmerdale, Mary blew Suzy a kiss as she prepared for the limo evening with Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).
When Suzy, Vanessa, and the rest of their pals eventually set off for the night, Vanessa caught Suzy looking distant and deep in thought.
She asked her girlfriend if everything was alright. Suzy said they could talk about things later, prompting Vanessa to kiss her.
