Emmerdale’s Amy Wyatt star grilled over soap death ‘plot hole’ after tragic twist

Emmerdale star Natalie Ann Jamieson, who plays Amy Wyatt in the ITV soap, has been grilled over a 'plot hole' in the tragic scenes which saw her character killed off

Emmerdale fans were left heartbroken as the character Amy Wyatt met a grim end on the popular ITV soap.

Following the shattering limo accident that rocked the village resulting in Suzy Merton, Leyla Harding, and Amy’s demises, viewers witnessed Amy plunge into an icy lake.

She was pulled from the chilling waters only to die later in hospital due to her injuries. Natalie Ann Jamieson, who plays Amy, joined Hits Radio West Yorkshire post exit to discuss the gripping storyline. However, presenter Rosie Madison raised questions about the sequence of events.

Reflecting on her harrowing final scenes, Natalie remarked: “Two limos going out for a lovely night out, sounds brilliant, but then ooh one swerves to miss a lorry and the other one crashes straight into ice. Into the ice goes Amy Wyatt.”

Natalie also noted the mystery surrounding her character’s fate: “There had been teasers for ages for Emmerdale like going: ‘Who is that hand?’, everybody was going: ‘Well, it’s definitely a man’s hand!’ and I was like: ‘Hm, definitely a man’s hand!’… it was me all along!”, reports Leeds Live.

However, Rosie couldn’t help but mention a certain disbelief during the broadcast: “Can I just say when we were watching, we were shouting at the telly because there was a few things that we’ve all been trained that if you ever fell through ice. One… you never walk on ice but two if you ever fell through you take your clothes off, you strip down!”

Natalie couldn’t help but chuckle, responding: “Yep! I was sodden, do you know what though? I just don’t know that they would have let us do that at 7:30pm at night! I did say do you want me to”, to which her quip sent the studio into fits of laughter.

This light-hearted moment came as Emmerdale star Natalie was visibly moved to tears while watching her character’s dramatic departure from the ITV soap during Lorraine’s Friday show.

The preceding Thursday night’s episode saw Amy dying in a hospital after plunging into a frozen lake following a limousine accident, which also claimed the lives of fellow villagers Suzy and Leyla.

Revisiting the scene was nothing short of heart-wrenching for Natalie, as she confided in host Christine Lampard: “It was very traumatic. We watched it in the hotel because I knew I was coming here this morning. It was a very, very sad episode.”

She further reflected on Amy’s fate: “It wasn’t to be for Amy, but what a way to go! What an episode, what an exit”, and shared how long she had been in the know about her imminent soap opera departure: “I’ve known for a long, long time, but I just think it’s so special.”

Natalie emphasised the allure of keeping plot turns confidential: “So when you don’t have spoilers for things like this, and when it comes as a surprise for the audience, and they get to watch it in real-time, there’s just something magical about it, so I was really keen to try and keep it under wraps.”
