Emmerdale fans have been left confused over Leyla Harding’s exit storyline.

Leyla – played by Roxy Shahidi – died in sad scenes last week when the limo she was travelling in crashed onto an icy lake. Amy Wyatt and Suzy Merton also lost their lives in the heartbreaking scenes, and a dead body was seen at the bottom of the lake.

Now fans of the ITV soap have been left puzzled by Dr Liam Cavanagh’s reaction to Leyla’s death. The pair were together for a long time and got married in 2021, before eventually splitting when she returned from rehab and her relationship with Liam broke down.

However, viewers are unsure why there seemed to be no scenes of Liam grieving his ex-wife Leyla. Whilst their romance didn’t end well, fans were hoping to see Liam’s reaction to the loss of his former partner.

One fan wrote on Reddit: “I feel the same about Liam’s reaction to Leyla like yes they weren’t as close anymore but he hardly seems bothered. I agree though it’s like they can only have a character mourning one person at a time.”

“How non bothered Liam sounded when taking to Chas about Leyla before the vigil was weird as well,” she said, whilst another person added: “I agree. They were married, for gods sake! It’s not realistic for him to appear to be blasé about it.”

Speaking about her exit from the show in the huge stunt week, she said: “Of course, it’s sad to see my character die, and I have loved playing Leyla because she is so funny, camp, and a brilliant character.

Meanwhile, Michelle Hardwick – who plays Vanessa Woodfield – previously opened up about how emotional the scenes were to film.

“It was really sad and because it was in the middle of December and your emotions are heightened anyway, there was one point I just broke down in tears. It all really got quite a lot. It was bittersweet because it was one of the best things I’ve ever filmed in my career because it was being on a Hollywood film set. It was unbelievable,” she said.
