Life for countless Emmerdale villagers was changed forever in recent scenes when the deaths of four characters were confirmed.
Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) was left devastated when girlfriend Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) was killed instantly when the limo they were in crashed into an icy lake.
She was even more crushed when the limo plummeted below the surface of the water with Suzy’s body still inside.
As Vanessa struggles with her grief in the aftermath of Suzy’s death, actress Michelle Hardwick has revealed who she is set to seek support from.
‘The whole village is going to be grieving because everyone who’s died, there’s pockets everywhere across the village.
‘The main support for Vanessa is going to be her sister Tracy, her best friend Rhona, and Mary.
‘Mary and Suzy had a very tight friendship that Vanessa was very aware of and she says frequently to Mary, “You meant the world to Suzy, I get that you’re hurting as well.” Mary’s going to be probably the biggest support to Vanessa going forward through these next couple of weeks.’
In upcoming scenes, as they prepare to lay Suzy to rest, Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) is shocked to receive a text from Vanessa informing her that she won’t be coming to the funeral.
Will Mary be able to convince her to say her final goodbyes?
As a haunted Mary later comforts a tearful Vanessa, a flashback to the night of the limo crash reveals why Mary is carrying such guilt.

Fans have previously theorised that there was something going on between Mary and Suzy, given their closeness and Mary’s feelings for her.
Could they be on the right track – and how would Vanessa react if that turned out to be the truth?
‘I think she would be absolutely heartbroken but she probably wouldn’t believe it,’ Michelle explained.
‘She’d be so heartbroken if she found that out, because Vanessa always puts 100% into everything she does. It would break her heart.’
