Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was still facing Matty Barton’s (Ash Palmisciano) wrath in last night’s episode of Emmerdale, so he decided to try and do something about it.

Matty hasn’t given Cain the time of day ever since he learnt he had slept with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) and therefore left Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) heartbroken.

Earlier this week, Moira decided to welcome Cain back to Butlers and give their relationship another go. It left Cain completely relieved and determined to earn her forgiveness, and he’s still working hard to do the same with other members of his family.

Yesterday, Cain arrived to see Matty. He had his dry-cleaned outfit and explained he was dropping it off because Moira wasn’t feeling well. Cain then explained to Matty that he was back with his mum.

The revelation left Matty stunned. Amid his grief, he angrily told Cain that he wouldn’t be welcome at Amy’s (Natalie Ann Jamieson) funeral.

Eventually though, Matty backtracked on this and allowed Cain to attend, because he knew Amy’s son Kyle (Huey Quinn) would need all the support possible.

Amy’s funeral last night was emotional, but Matty struggled to keep his feelings towards Cain below the surface. During the wake at the pub, he confronted Cain again, which made for an awkward and tense dynamic.

Matty rushed to the toilets and was found by Cain. He told Matty that he could hit him if he wanted, something that left him confused.

Cain wanted Matty to do something that meant the anger he was feeling was no longer in his system, because he didn’t want Matty to continue feeling such resentment amid his grief.

In a moving moment, Cain told the character that they cannot be enemies, because he sees him as his son.

Matty was taken aback, but touched by Cain’s words.

As the wake came to an end, we returned to Butlers. In the lounge, Matty was playing video games with Kyle.

He glanced at Cain, and suffice to say both characters were glad they had finally turned a page.
