Some Emmerdale fans are holding out hope of a reunion between Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick).

The popular former couple split in 2020 after Charity cheated on Vanessa with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), who she is now married to.

Meanwhile, Vanessa went on to embark on a relationship with Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), but she died in the ITV soap’s epic limo crash stunt last month.

Vanessa has been supported by Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) in the aftermath of Suzy’s death, although flashbacks have revealed she’d shared a kiss with Suzy before she died.

In recent weeks, a grieving Vanessa has also shared notably more scenes with her ex Charity, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.

Believing it could be a clue soap bosses are planning for them to get back together, one fan posted on X: ‘Emmerdale had 2 Vanity scenes in 2024, but now they’ve been in 5 eps together in 3 wks & had 2 major Vanity scenes in under 2 wks, all after killing off Suzy & tarnishing that relationship with cheating.

‘They’re not baiting, they’re intentionally drawing Vanessa back to Charity,’ they added.

Another agreed: ‘There is NO way they are not lining them up to get back together.’

‘They better put my girls back together,’ another posted.

‘Stop teasing us Emmerdale and just give us what we have been waiting for! Vanity is meant to be!’

Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, previously said that “a lot of people” believe her character was happiest when she was with Vanessa.

‘But then again, when something becomes too happy, people suggest there needs to be conflict for it to be watchable in soaps. So, there is that element,’ she told Radio Times in 2023.

Reflecting on their relationship, Emma continued: ‘It was a very beautiful, wholesome relationship, and Charity isn’t used to that, she’s used to being part of quite a toxic environment.

‘They understood one another, and she finally felt she could let go and trust when she hadn’t been able to do that before now.

‘From Vanessa, that level of support, loyalty and love is priceless. I think a lot of people took to that and it resonated. The fact it was two women, it made a brilliant impact for a lot of people.’

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
