It’s been an emotionally difficult time for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) in Emmerdale recently but things start looking up in upcoming episodes – in a way that leaves Charity (Emma Atkins) even more worried for her granddaughter.

Sarah recently fell for local boy Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), but at the beginning of their relationship his on/off attitude to her sent her into a spiral and she ended up in hospital after getting seriously drunk.

This was a serious issue as Sarah was diagnosed with Fanconi anaemia, a rare inherited bone marrow failure syndrome which increases her risk of cancer and means she could have a shorter than average life expectancy.

Jacob realised he did want to be in a relationship with Sarah despite his mum Leyla (Roxy Shahidi)’s warning that he shouldn’t get attached to someone with Sarah’s health problems.

But following Leyla’s tragic death, Jacob withdrew again from the relationship with Sarah. Tragically, at the same time Sarah thought she was pregnant with Jacob’s baby. She discovered that this was a false alarm, and was devastated that she could have lost her only chance to have a family.

In the wake of all this, Sarah is in desperate need of some fun and excitement in her life and it comes when she meets a young lad called Kammy (Shebz Miah) trying to start a quad bike on a country lane.

Sarah doesn’t initially realise that Kammy has stolen the quad from Moira (Natalie J Robb)’s farm, but she quickly works it out when Ross (Mike Parr) approaches and starts making accusations. Unexpectedly, Sarah covers for Kammy – and it’s not long before the two are racing stolen quad bikes across a field together.

Katie Hill told us, ‘I can’t wait for the audience to meet Kammy – he’s a really fun character and a great addition to the village. We might even see him and Sarah get up to a bit of mischief together. It has been great having Shebz join the cast and he’s been brilliant to work with!’

And of course Sarah deserves some fun in her life and Kammy certainly puts a spring in her step.

But when Charity walks in on the pair sharing a moment of closeness, will she think that having Kammy in her life is a good thing for Sarah – or will Charity worry that her granddaughter is so vulnerable at the moment that the last thing she needs is someone who appeals to her rebellious side and exposes her to danger?
