Dr Liam Cavanagh is a fan favourite on Emmerdale – but he could lose his life next week in shocking scenes. Played by Johnny McPherson, Liam – who was caught in the limo crash last month – finds himself in grave danger again.
In scenes set to air next week, Chas and Liam are growing increasingly concerned about Ella as she continues to persistently message and call both of them. John tells Liam to turn his phone off, but Belle receives a call cancelling Liam and Chas’ wedding, and it looks like Ella is still exacting her harassment on the happy couple.
Liam is desperate and decides to call the police and when they notice a window has been smashed at the pub, they instantly think Ella must be to blame. With Ella adamant to prove she hasn’t done anything, she coaxes Liam to the house and urges him to believe she isn’t to blame, whilst he tries to convince her into confessing by pretending to get back together.

She grabs the knife again and when Chas and Mandy arrive, she flees as Liam follows her. In the woods, there’s a confrontation and Liam is pushed over and hits his head. Believing she has killed him, Ella sobs over his body – but is he dead?
Now Johnny McPherson – who plays Dr Liam – has revealed all about his soap future after he has been left for dead twice in the space of a month. He told The Mirror and other press: “I had quite a few texts from friends expressing concern but thankfully Liam lives to fight another day. To be perfectly honest I’m just delighted to still be here.
“We all know acting is a precarious game and nobody’s got any guarantees of longevity on a soap. You’ve just got to be grateful for the time you’ve had and if and when the time comes you’ve got to do the best you can with it.”
Liam and Chas have been going from strength to strength
Johnny previously confessed Liam is torn about Chas and Ella once again, and is “utterly exhausted” by being stuck between the two. “I think he’s just utterly exhausted with it all, because he thought everything had finally been resolved with Ella as best it could and they were going to move on with their respective lives,” he said.
“He was desperately hoping they could close the door on that particular chapter and move forward, but sadly it’s dragging on.”
He added: “He can’t bear the idea that, after everything he and Ella have been through, she might still be trying to destroy his life. I think he feels quite split between loyalty to Chas and wanting to be supportive of her, and also wanting to be compassionate and kind to Ella as somebody with psychiatric issues.”
There had been rumours Ella actress Paula Lane had left the soap but her character has returned with a vengeance and seems hell bent on splitting Liam and Chas up – but will she?
Following the surprise collapse, Ella has been accused by Liam but is she really to blame for what happened to Chas and what happens to them both next week – or is someone else involved?
