Emmerdale’s Paula Lane breaks silence on Ella’s surprise love interest – and it would destroy lives
Emmerdale’s Paula Lane has somewhat fuelled the fan theory Ella Forster (Paula Lane) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) are going to start an affair.
When Ella’s secret about her past and being a child killer was exposed, she found a friend in Cain.
Cain is the father of Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn), who shot Al Chapman dead after walking in on the two men fighting. While Cain being in Ella’s corner was unexpected, it certainly wasn’t a great surprise, given he knows a little about what she’s gone through.
Ella was then thrown out of the village by Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and told to never return. In recent weeks though, Ella came back to the Dales looking for items she had left at Tenants.
She intended on popping back briefly, not wanting to get spotted by any residents, but her visit turned into something longer thanks to being involved in a car crash, and then sadly suffering what is known as an anembryonic pregnancy.
While Ella tries to settle back into village life she will certainly need some friends in her corner. With one of them being Cain Dingle, it has left many fans of the ITV soap wondering where things could go, given his ongoing relationship issues with Moira (Natalie J Robb).
Reflecting on this, Paula Lane recently told us: ‘It did flash up on my phone about her and Cain. And when I did film that very intense scene, even I went “Ooh, what’s going to get picked up here?” I think it’s just speculation, but I kind of joked previously you always like a bad boy, because they can take you to different places and things. So we’ll see. There’s nothing been said on that front.
‘But to be honest, there are not that many people – I have gone through it in my head and thought maybe she’ll go with Michelle Hardwick. Vanessa, maybe she’ll end up going the other way.’
‘Yeah, most people didn’t see that one coming!’, Paula said, reflecting on the reaction from fans when Ella’s secret was revealed.
‘I’ve had a few messages actually, like via social media. All very positive on the acting front. But I think it is quite thought-provoking. You know, where you sit with it morally? Because obviously I’m a mother. If somebody did that to my child, I would find it enormously difficult to forgive.
‘That’s what’s brilliant about this storyline is that it kind of does get you questioning it quite a lot. On the whole, I feel like people sort of believe that she served her time. That’s where the majority kind of sits from what I’ve seen.’
‘When I took the part of Ella, I didn’t know that this storyline was going to be the storyline it is now’, she added.
‘But any actor worth their salt will take something very gritty. And that’s going to give you full exposure and run with it. So I knew that it was in safe hands, I knew that they wanted to do a really great job with it. Combined with the writer, and the director, I just knew that they were going to make it something really magical.
‘So initially, I think I was quite nervous to play it out. Because you just never know which way the audience is going to go. But ultimately, I just always look for the truth in it. And then hope that everything kind of follows on from there.’
