Brenda in Emmerdale’s reason for not returning after cruise ‘revealed’

Viewers of Emmerdale think they know what sad twist will lead to Brenda Walker not returning to the ITV soap.

Lesley Dunlop’s character exited the village for a three-month cruise during Friday’s episode. But given reports earlier this year confirmed the actress was leaving the show for good, fans already know she won’t be back.

The episode was very final too with tearful goodbyes, one last look at the village and a post-episode video looking back on Brenda’s best moments. Cathy Hope also departed during the episode but given her leave is temporary, it seems this is why all of the focus was on Brenda.

Some fans were baffled, given Brenda and others kept commenting on it being a holiday and only being three months, suggesting it was not forever. Knowing she was leaving, fans got confused as they couldn’t work out if the reports had been wrong – only for them to be proven right.

So with Brenda currently intending on coming back with Cathy later in the year when the three-month cruise trip comes to an end, something has to happen for her to not return. But will it be something sinister, or might she make a big decision?

Some viewers feared the scenes were a little bit ominous and they could seal a sad fate for Brenda. Her constant vows to be back for her ex Eric Pollard amid his Parkinson’s Disease battle, and her repeatedly saying it was only for a few months, left fans fearing something would make it impossible for her to return.

Could a tragic death be on the cards? Another theory was that she would reunite with a relative, her granddaughter Molly who lives in Canada.

With her planning on meeting up with Molly while she’s away, Jacob Gallagher said something about her being able to see Molly all the time now she’s single. This left some fans convinced that after the three months were up and the trip was over, she would decide to stay in Canada for good with Molly.

Taking to social media one fan theorised: “I think the mention of seeing her granddaughter Molly in Canada during the cruise is a clue as to the reason Brenda won’t come back.” Another fan said: “She’ll love Canada and decide to stay.”

A third added: “I think Brenda WILL go on the cruise. But she’ll come back on the day Eric passes away and that will end up with her leaving for Canada to be with her granddaughter Molly.” Other fans feared a death was on the way.

One said: “Is Brenda going to die on this cruise or go all Shirley Valentine? – it’s only for ‘3 months’.” A further post read: “Probably fell over board knowing Emmerdale.”

Viewers will have to wait and see how it gets explained on the show, after Lesley left the role for good.
