Emmerdale character back from the dead in shocking twist

Since his arrival in Emmerdale, we’ve learnt a little bit about John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). He is a former member of the army, and also sister of Victoria (Isabel Hodgins).
We first met John when was stuck at the side of a road as a result of his broken van. After sleeping with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), he then attended his mum’s funeral, and ended up staying in the village for a few days when his van broke again.
Despite giving the impression he wasn’t interested in getting to know Vic, John proved his heart isn’t completely made of ice when he eventually started connecting with her, and beginning a relationship with Aaron.
Things changed for the character when he opened up about Aidan Moore, who he worked with in the army. John revealed that Aidan died when a bomb went off.
It was a devastating story but next week, Vic will learn that her brother has told a pretty big lie to her in the form of Aidan actually being alive.
At the start of the week, Vic meets with Connor, John’s old friend. They chat about John, but Victoria is taken aback when Connor reveals that Aidan isn’t dead.
Connor tells Vic about what happened in Afghanistan, but confirms Aidan is in a coma at a hospital in Leeds.

Vic makes her way over there and finds Aidan’s hospital room. She sees John’s mate but quickly leaves, shaken by the truth.
Back in the village, John is confronted by Vic, who reveals she knows about Aidan.
As John enters flight mode to defend himself, Vic berates him for lying and is then left with one worrying conclusion – she doesn’t know John Sugden very well at all.
We now know that John was responsible for killing Nate Robinson last year but this and Aidan aside, what else is the character hiding?
‘I think the character is a gift, really, because the backstory that’s been created from day one is so deep’, actor Oliver Farnworth said.
‘The different intricacies of the character are just so interesting to play.
‘He’s not just a villain or a bad person on paper, there’s way, way more to it than that. Even day by day, week by week, I’m literally still discovering things about him. So yes, there’s plenty more to come and yes, it’s a gift of a part.’
